A brief Introduction

The information contained in electronic documents is most often the evidence that is pertinent both in matters relating to litigation and disclosure. The traditional process for the handling of disclosing digital evidence is to take the document in its electronic form, print it out on paper, manually view the documents for relevant information and then scan the document back into an electronic form so that it can be imported into a document management system. The human intervention to read through the material gives rise to huge time and resource overheads, which someone has to pay for.

Even superficial consideration of this process highlights the fact that this is an expensive, inefficient and cumbersome process at best, and at worst is a process that conceals information that may be pertinent to the disclosure process.
